Recording Your Video
Your submitted video must be recorded in one take. Don’t edit together sections of multiple videos. Do record several takes and submit the best one.
Set up in a well-lit, quiet area. You should be facing the lighting, not positioned with the light source behind you. Try to frame the shot so your face, instrument, and hands are all visible. Make sure your music stand doesn’t obstruct the camera’s line of sight.
Filming with your smartphone is great. Position it in landscape or portrait orientation as makes sense to best show you and your instrument. Use a tripod or some other steady surface to hold your camera still throughout the single take. Do not apply any video effects or zoom or pan.
Brass players, start your video by introducing yourself and stating what scales and what solo piece or excerpt you are going to play. Percussionists, introduce yourself and tell us what you are going to play for us. (Audition specifics for brass and percussion are below.)
Watch and listen to your video before you submit it to make sure it presents the audition you want to submit.
Once your video is ready, upload it to YouTube with the title “[your name] NWBC 2024-25 [instrument] Audition”. (Make sure to edit in your name and instrument!) Set the visibility to Unlisted. Give the video another watch after uploading it, and if it’s ready, click Share and copy the video link to submit.
